Why do we never see/hear about Saab anymore? I just looked at their website, and the 9-3 looks great. Nicely equipped for about $27 also. 210hp, 5 speed, what's holding Saab back from more cars on the roads here?

They look like they have the same features as BMW/etc...?

I don't know why, but I have a soft spot for Saabs. I've never owned one, but they always look pretty cool to me. I wish they used bigger engines though. I understand that the Swedes are "really good" with turbos, but a little more displacement would help them out a bit.

My freind has a 9 3 and it's ok but it rides stiff and they are corky. You have to have the thing in R to start it and the key is were the cup holder should be.

There hasn't been a REAL Saab built since the last 9000. Now they're nothing more than another nameplate GM can use to badge engineer into oblivion.

    The "Saabaru" for example.

I wouldn't touch any modern Saab with a big stick. The 9-3 Cabriolet looks good, but apart from that the rest of the range is hardly inspirational.

Indeed. And I am THOROUGHLY disgusted with GM's decision to market a Saab fucking Trailblazer. I mean, honestly, how shameful is that?

I'd kill for a mid-90s 9000 Aero. The epitome of Saab design and technology, right before they got swallowed by the giant corporation of doom. The seats are just to die for.

I remember when I was 11 or 12 (learned to drive when I was 10), my dad took a used '89 9000 Turbo 5spd. for a test drive, and let me bomb around a parking lot in it. One of my fond early memories of being behind the wheel. I miss oddball, unique cars like Saab used to be.

I think the 9-3 is a very good car (the styling is the eptiome of handsome) in search of much more power and AWD. It just isn't competitive as it is now which is a shame.

Companies don't spend money on advertising if they don't need the publicity. Everybody knows what a Saab is, and unlike the rest of GM, they make cars that people actually want to buy.

This is the hotness that I miss. My parents had one when I was growing up and after being in it, and eventually driving it for a while, I cant bring myself to buy a Vauxhall Vectra rebadged as a Saab. Or a scooby, or a trailblazer...

    They just arent Saabs :hs:

i agree that the new 9-3 is a really great looking car

but saab has always been a love it or hate it kind of car, with the typical styling and quirky functions

You can complain about it being FWD, but they are from SWEDEN where u certainly dont want to drive RWD..... and volvo has been doin the AWD thing for a while, so saab can cut costs and have generally quicker feeling cars with FWD....which is probably why u dont see them with more than 240hp, cuz thats getting close to about as much as u want on a mass produced FWD. And if u live in high elevations, u cant beat turbos

So do Swedes themselves think Saabs are garbage now? are they like oh god, our precious saabs are bastardized by these americans. Are they all rockin volvos now?

:werd: God, those were pretty cars. And I loved the flight-deck dashboards, seat-hugging headrests, and transmission-lock ignition cylinders back when they were new, exciting, and purposeful. Now they're basically the only remnants of branding left in the whole company. They've even lost the console ignition recently...

I really like saab, it screams to be different from everyone else

problem is understeer and torque steer. I tested a 9-3 aero and relaly liked the turbo but damn that thing can't turn if you gun it.

in fact all fwd are pretty weak in this departement, but saab is worse IMO

and the big thing that made me not buy one is the more than crappy resale value. everyone rents them because they are worth nothing used no one wants them because of previous really really expensive maintenance.

that was my first one. SE "scarabe green." good power, good handling, nice interior & ammenities. you can do lots of little tinkering with it for very little $$ to up the HP. it kicks ass in the snow, too. you get a lot for your money, great value...

...and not every asshole in the world owns one :bigok:
