I have to make this decision tomorrow most likely. I have a $100 deposit down on a silver 2004 S60R w/ body kit. The other choice is a 2004 330ci. The S60R lease comes out to being LESS than the 330ci suprisingly, depsite a $45k price tag vs. a $40k price tag. I realize OT loves the S60R for its performance aspects and i will admit it drove amazingly, but from an exterior looks and reliability standpoint, what does everyone have to say?

    Thanks :)

Drive them both back to back.

I drove a 330iP and S60R within minutes, and well, it's an eye opener.

You should be able to get the R a few thousand cheaper and insure it a bit cheaper as well.

I like the looks of the S60R. Why is the S60R 45k? what options did you spend $$ on?

I have never driven the Volvo so I'd say drive both - but why do you want a body kit?

Well I didn't want to say it, but it really brought out how totally unrefined the S60R is.

I was smitten with the cars styling, but everything else doesn't measure up to the BMW. If the price difference is worth it to you, then the BMW is your ride.

$45k is grossly overpriced for an S60R too.

The new one I drove I could have bought for $36k or so.

    Base is $37,600

    Only options were:
    Auto Transmission
    Metallic Paint
Premium Package (moonroof + 350 watt 13 speaker HK sound system)
Sport Body Kit (makes the car look amazing)
    18" rims

    MSRP ~$45,600 :hs:

    i currently drive a 2001 330ci btw

    the lease deal on the $45k S60R is $1750 down, $564 a month for 39 months, 15k miles/year

very good lease deal considering the new 330ci with a lower sticker price was closer to $620 a month

I priced one out on Volvo's site and it came to $43k. Leave off crap like navigation, sunroof/premium package, it's a few thousand cheaper, plus whatever you can negotiate at the dealer, and they do negotiate on this car, it's not that highly sought after.

yeah sounds about right... but the sport body kit is not on volvo's site yet, it is a $2000 option however.

the only options i care about are auto, metallic paint, 18" rims, sport kit

the premium package doesnt really matter much to me, although the sound system is sweet... there are zero S60R's in all of south florida without the package though because most people down here want moonroof

it's not that bad. Actually, it's cheaper if u set aside buying money and pay cash at the end of term. :) That's what I'm doing with my IS300 in july.

That's another $1,200 or so off the price, and it the manual it comes with shifts nicely.

 right, since an auto transmission completely kills any and all performance aspects of the car

i appreciate the difference a manual can make, hence my current car being one.. but the admitted performance advantages dont outweigh the inconvenience in my current circumstances

    I'd take a 330Ci or a 330i PP over a S60R
