Thinking to get an AR to get ahead of any potential changes after this election. I can probably get a S&W for ~$700 brand new. The thing is i don't know how that would compare to building my own - either in terms of quality or price. Any suggestions?

I'd get it for that price.

I probably will - just have to save up my pennies. I'm pretty sure I can get it for that price. Our distributor price is $740, but we buy straight through S&W, so our cost would be lower.

Not sure - we don't have any of them in stock.

    The M&P15X is $1100
    The M&P15T is $1300 i think
    The M&P15OR is $900

    I would guess around $1100

No sights on it, so be ready to buy $200 in flip up sights.

I know because I have one. :hs:

I think my shop sells the A model for $900. Your prices are pretty high.

I thought the OR models comes with a front site. I wouldnt get it.

Those prices seem high to me. At any rate, the M&P15X is a hell of a lot of gun for the money.

OR is a flat top. No front sight.

The M&P15R has the front sight for $950 in here.

If your shop has the M&P15A for $900, they are only making like $20 on the gun.

Another thing to consider - I can get a complete LMT lower for less than $300. Should building one enter into the equation?

How much would it be to complete the gun?

Not unless you want to change out the stock and grip and trigger guard.

Upper would be $450-$500 (LMT or BCM or Noveske) + $130 for Bolt Carrier Group, $20 for charging handle, $20 for handguards (LMT comes with them). Add in $140 for a Troy BUIS rear sight or less for other competitors. LMT does not make a mid length upper besides the MRP.

    Ill post some links later.

stock - battery compartments, more solidly built
grip - fits your hand better than the standard issue
trigger guard - good with gloves

Yeah - it's very tempting for just over $900. But then again, $900 is a lot of money.

I'm personally buying a complete LMT lower with the sopmod stock and the 2 stage trigger. Then I'll be buying a LMT upper for it. :run:
