S-video is crap - minimally better than composite RCA video (all it adds is hue and saturation i believe).

Upgrading to component video from s-video will be a huge jump in quality. I actually own one of those adapters, well mine is a VGA connection for hooking to a computer, with Componet video out. I can tell you that VGA and component video are the same quality - which is no suprise becaues the cable i bought has the ends of the video cables soldered right onto the connector for the VGA! same principal with that part you mentioned.

My suggestion is to run simply component video from your DVD to your projector. you don't need that adapter unless your dvd player only has s-video and VGA outputs.

Yes, my projecter only has VGA, S-video, and Composite inputs.

Down the road im going to get one with HDMI inputs, is there really a noticeable difference between component and hdmi? (Don't care about sound)

How much of an issue is this?

Dad just picked up a new 50" Pioneer Plasma for himself (does 720p/1080i, has HDMI input) But the DVD player he picked up only has component output.

Should I tell him to take it back for one that does HDMI or is it not much of an issue.

I believe they are the same no, HDMI is just easier cause its one plug, and it carries sound.

Also, unless your DVD player is a HD-DVD or BlueRay player, you don't have anything to worry about anyway.

I am glad to hear that, I just picked up a vga -> DVI and a DVI to HDMI cable for use with my projector that I was using s-video and a regular dvd player. Now I have an upconvert dvd and HDMI FTW.:bigthumb: (I havent hooked it up yet with the new components)

He started out with VGA. A VGA to DVI adapter dosn't magically give you DVI quality.
