I've heard that running in the morning before you eat breakfast is a great way to boost your metabolism. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was true.

yeah, but depending on how much you're running a piece of toast or at least something in your tummy an hour or so before your jog wouldn't hurt.

Some people seriously can't eat anything before they jog in the am.

    cals in vs. cals out
    #1 most important thing.....
running in the morning can cause you to burn muscle depending on how much glycogen you have stored....or how intense you run
Fat will not burn to fuel anaerobic activity

what about it...don't peform anaerobic activity on an empty stomach period... Performance will suffer and you will be in a catabolic state.

okay this is what i've been wondering lately. i've been following the lyle article about morning cardio for the past couple weeks (empty stomach, Y+C, 5min warm-up, 5min all-out, 5 min break, 30 min intense cardio), and during the intense cardio phase i get into the 2nd wind/runner's high zone.

i slightly remember a TA in one of my bio classes telling me that this phenomena occured when the body releases endorphines and switches to muscle glycogen for fuel.

is the part about burning muscle glycogen for fuel true?

if so, is it hurting my muscles?

if so, is the lyle article wrong?

im started my cardio regimen today, its about a 1.5 mile run about 10min after 25mg E and 200mg C (right when i wake up). im thinking the ephedrine will keep me from burning muscle during that, plus i dont think i'd be able to do it w/ food in my stomach, today it almost killed me :hs: right after i get done running i shower then have my shake and oats...

    is this good or bad?
should i switch my routine by running in the morning, then workout in the afternoon :dunno: any help would be appreciated...

you are overthinking.....do not perform anaerobic activity without food in your body...PERIOD

In the absence of sugar your body will not burn fat for this type of activity rather it will take amino acids which are in your muscles break them down and turn them into sugar through a process known as .......................i forgot (i belive its aminogluceonosis or someshit)

I have read a few fitness books/magazines from personal trainers that differ from the opinions from people here in this thread, so I really don't know what to believe.

I do know exercising in the morning on an empty stomach is a lot better for me.

yeah, i just googled "morning cardio bodybuilding" and most of what i found (most were posts on some forum or another, or articles on a random bb site) said that morning cardio before a meal was the way to go. then you have a few posts disagreeing, but the general concensus is you will burn significantly more fat if you do cardio on an empty stomach in the morning.
