So I have a website with a fairly popular forum and I run advertising with adsense on all of the different sections.

I keep a tight lockdown on nudity/porn so that I won't get kicked off adsense but that's actually starting to kill the site. Some members are moving to alternative websites where there's a looser attitude and posting up porn is allowed in many of the sections.

My thought to keep members happy is to create a new forum that would be private so guests can't even see it and the also create a different skin for it with no advertising at all. That way I can keep the adsense off the forum with the porn part and since I don't give the google crawler any access other than guest, they should never even see it.

Good idea, bad idea or horrible idea?

Yeah, but 95% of the site is not adult related. It's mainly just a general discussion site and some conversations tend to turn to that. I make plenty of money with google and don't want to get rid of adsense but yet i still want an adult area that I can just make private and not show adsense ads on.

Would that be an issue with the adsense tos?

Yeah, that's the plan. It probably is still against the TOS but I'll have to take my chances. I think it's better to keep the users happy. If I ever lost adsense, I would be totally screwed financially but the same goes if I ever lost a big chunk of my users.

technically you can't even put adsense on a site that links to an adult site:mamoru:

Of course not. That's why it's going to be private and that's why only certain member groups (i.e. the google crawler) won't even have access to it or know it exists.

Yeah, and that's pretty fucking rare to find any forum anywhere without a few links people have posted up to a tube8 stream or something. It's probably one of those clauses they hang onto so they can get rid of your adsense account whenever they want.

I'm sure I'll still be playing with fire if I do a private area though. I hate making decisions like this.

Why not just not run anything in that area?

You mean ads? Yeah, I wouldn't have any at all in that area.

Googlebots have this crazy ability to find their way to places in a forum that you SWEAR are not accessible by it. Yeah they usually just see the login page, but the thread title they're trying to access might be enough to get you banned if it's "OMG CHECK OUT THIS CHICK COPPING ANAL FROM A DOG LOL".. :p

That's what scares me, but losing my userbase scares me too.

I wonder if it would fly if I setup another domain name for that hidden forum to be on but still used the same database for usernames/passwords so they don't have to login again. :dunno:

Find another monitization method then, the months testing new money sources from will be far less money lost then losing your entire userbase.

try a different affiliate. Try adbrite and then on the private pages use their adult network, black label ads:dunno:

I guess it's worth a shot. I've tested other networks in the past but always had the best luck with adsense.

Is adbrite one of those that google considers another text advertiser and thus isn't allowed to run along adsense?

you can run them together, you just have to make them different in appearance ie. different colors

 I'm going to start testing with them now and if it seems to pay well, I'll go ahead with my plans and then at least I'll have a fallback ad network if google ever gets sand in their vaginas about my hidden forum.
