Spend a bit more and get an AR, alot more accessories for AR's, mags for AR are cheap and reliable unlike the mini mags, ar accuracy > mini accurcy x11ty.

I owned a mini14 for a short period of time, the accuracy was horrible, better accurcy from my AK's and SKS. Mags were expensive(this was durring the ban though) mags are cheaper now im sure but when i had mine aftermarket mags sucked.

Don't do it unless you fully know what you're getting.

Pretty much what everyone else as said.

By pretty much all accounts the reliability is outstanding and the accuracy is appalling, especially as the barrel heats.

There are a few aftermarket builders who sell "accurized" mini-14's & 30's. http://www.accuracysystemsinc.com/ is one of them, but they are pretty expensive.

They are only reliable with Ruger factory magazines. Ruger does not sell 20rnd magazines to the public so you'll have to track them down online and at gun shows yourself. You'll end up paying at least $30 for them and that's if you're lucky.

The factory iron sights on the old Ranch model rifles suck. The new one is better though.

Their accuracy is about a 6" group at 100 yards. Sometimes people are lucky and get a rifle that'll do a 2" group out of the box at 100 but your chance of getting one that'll do that is slim.

we used the mini14 with the DOC. I hated them. They were the crappiest guns I had ever shot. I do have a friend that got a rancher model and put a few upgrades on it and it looks pretty  I don't know about it's accuracy or anything.

For the same price as the mini you can get yourself an AK, shooting AK and mini back to back I got better results with the AK, AK mag's are alot cheaper.
For a little less get an SKS more accurate, plenty of aftermarket crap also.
For a bit more as I said previously get an AR.

Some police departments in Lousiana were using them too. Could see them on the news in the flooded areas with the Gov't Model Mini.

But yeah. Like the others said, I'd go a different route. Hell I'd rather have a bubba SKS than a Mini14. Never shot a 30 so I can't comment on that.

I've heard the 30s are better than the 14s

A friend had a 30, it shot slightly better then 14 but even still for $300 you can find a chinese SKS that was mod'd to take ak mags from the factory
