So every ruck in basic and now in OCS, im getting blisters and its finally pissing me off. I got a new set of boots a few weeks ago (altama's) because we literally have to run everywhere. We did a speedy 5 mile ruck this morning and when i took my boots off tonight i had blisters in new places from where i got them with my summer boots. So are there any tricks (besides moleskin) that you guys use to prevent blisters?

Btw, i ruck with black liner socks and issue greens with foot powder in the socks to 'try' and keep my feet dry.

change your socks out when you even think that you're feeling warm spots and use foot powder

also have you tried using something like bodyglide or chamois butter or at worst petroleum jelly. both reduce the friction layer between your foot, the socks, and the insoles.

i use chamois butter in my endurance races and triathlons and dont get monkey butt or blisters..but then again i am black and i have read that my race makes me less susceptible to blisters :dunno:

holy crap the pictures are pretty rough blisters. I don't know of anything else besides what you are already doing with liner socks + foot powder. And it's already been mentioned, but change your socks whenever possible.

I use a pair of moisture wicking socks then a pair of cotton socks over that. Also make sure that your boots are tight. You don't want your foot sliding around.

Also, anyone thinking about doing Bataan?

ouch man... I used to do the liner underneath the super thick "ruck socks" that are like $15 bucks a pair.

The other trick is to dual lace your boots... where you do the low top portion tight as possible, tie them off, the separately lace the ankle.

    This is a good idea.

    Boot Break-In:

Fill tub with water as hot as it can get. Put on your socks / boots how you're going to wear them and stand in the water letting the water soak in as much as possible.

wear around the house for the next hour or so and take off and let dry. Possibly repeat once more if necessary.

I have no future plans to buy new boots because mine are so comfy and broken in and have not given me even one blister yet. Anything over 5k I use the black liner with the green socks that we're issued. Has not failed me yet. :dunno: I love my Vibrams, the ones I got issued at Basic. I see people rollin around in the converse / black hawk boots and wonder wtf, arent the boots we're issued good enough?

Black hawks that look like ass :barf:

I never get too many blisters, my boots fit like a sock though. That may be the source of my good fortune.

i had these and did a 12 mile ruck with them almost a year ago. i have no complaints. i had no blisters afterward despite the fact that i only wore green socks and used no foot powder.

thats the thing with my new boots. they were absolutely awesome for all the concrete/asphalt running we have to do but the last mile or so of the ruck, my "running-shoe" boots obliterated my heels.
