    So I decided that since I can't sleep and need more FOSS cool points I'm gonna learn Ruby.

    Ruby on Rails ftmfw.

    A buddy of mine went to the Vancouver on Rails, Ruby conference. I heard it was wicked.

    I know some smart people who preach Ruby like it's the new Jesus. Never tried it myself, maybe I'll have to look into it sometime.

    be careful with ruby. After a while it will make you forget that you even know other languages. And if you ever do remember your good pall c++ or java, you'll try to do all sorts of unseamly things with their variables

    Code:
    x = int.new

    I dont know, but perl works fine for me. We even use object oriented perl where I work.

    Absolutely not. The only acceptable substitute for Jesus is english toffee.

    I love perl. Its the language I think in. It was the first language I learned after basic C, the first language I actually accomplished anything in. Its been good to me. Its gotten me jobs when nothing else would. Even when I'm all into Java, I think perl and then Java.

    But... Ruby has some cool as shit, and I'd love to think in it. I think maybe they're right about how quick you can get shit done in Ruby. I'm not sure yet. But I like it so far. Its jogging the way I think, which will help all my program whoring.

    take a look at how this guy did quicksort in ruby
    (http://yagni.com/combsort/index.php)
    Code:
    def quicksort(a)
      return a if a.size <= 1
      pivot = a[0]
      quicksort(a.select {|value| value < pivot}) +
        a.select {|value| value == pivot} +
        quicksort(a.select {|value| value > pivot})
    end

    Imagine being able to think like that.
