Considering that a good row session can take 20-30 minutes. Is this enough to be called a back/cardio day?

I mostly want strength in my back just to balance out my physique but am scared of doing other back exercises for fear of messing up my spine. I am not going into competition or anything, just want to treat my body better :)

So ya, will the rowing machines do the job? And what is a recommend one that is $100-200?? thanks

whoaa. so a back workout just isnt a back workout w/o the almighty deadlift eh? its really that important...

i guess its save for me to cancel my plans for getting that rowing machine and stick to pullups/deadlift???

I think the rowing machine is better for cardio fitness. It depends on what your goals are but that isn't going to put on much mass. I do

    Deads
    Close grip pull ups
    Wide grip pull downs
    Bent over DB rows

my goal is not to compete in bodybuilding competitions or powerlifting. I just want to simply be in good shape and stay healthy.
For my backworkouts, I feel pain, but I dont even know if its good pain or bad pain, which is why I kinda worried when I start going really heavy.

go light. then work your way up. you probably tried to do too much weight.

just because you dont want to compete in bodybuilding doesnt mean you shouldnt work out your full back.

ok its just that i thought of rowing as an effective strength builder rather than a cardio machine as most ppl in this thread probably think.. and ya I think I have to get to those dead lifts no matter what, before my ego gets destroyed even more lol. thanks for the motivation i guess..

And probably surprising to you guys, I have many ppl tell me that they dont work out their legs because they run. so much misinformation in bodybuilding nowadays I dont even know who to believe.

you dont need to deadlift it just helps the lower back

    theres upper/mid/lower

work out all 3 instead of just doing one exercise

    deadlift/rows/lat pull down

I didn't do deadlifts for a long time because I was afraid of hurting my back, it was too hard and I had a big stinky pussy. Take it from somebody who was where you are now, try deadlifts. The key is form, get somebody who knows what they're doing to show you how to do it right. I wish I'd started years ago now.

You realize that low back pain and herniated discs are very common among rowers, right?
