So I'm attempting to do this routine, but i can't do a chin up, for starters because I dont have a bar at home (yet) and i'm not strong enough to pull myself up, what can exercise can I use to replace chin ups so that I can eventually do them?

I've got barbell, dumbells, bench and i have a gym membership, but i'm a little embarassed doing weights there, the guys there do so much compared to me, i feel a intimidated, so i thought i'd work out a bit before i go back to the gym for weights, but i still do cardio there on my off days.

I was talking to my friend and he said just jumping up and grabbing the bar, and letting it myself go down slow will work, but thats really embarassing.

every gym i've been to has had an assisted pullup machine of some kind where you can lower your bodyweight to make the pullup easier.

Just do lat pulldowns with an underhand grip. When you start gaining some strength try again on the bar.

if you hit the gym, you can do assisted pullups, fatman pullups (bodyweight rows where you pull yourself up to the bar in a power rack or smith machine), or pulldowns. if you stay at home, you can replace them with DB or BB rows.

    Reverse pullups.

i.e. use a bench to get into the TOP of the pullup, then lower yourself slowly over 5-10 seconds. Repeat until you can't do them any more. Eventually you'll gain enough strength to be able to pull yourself UP too.

Seriously just go to the gym.
-everyone- respects the skinny guy with good form and dedication more than the "big guy" grunting and growling and lifting big weight.

    I care for no AV's.
I'm 225 lbs... I have a hard time doing pull ups. I use the assisted machine all the time. VERY few guys at the gym do more then 2-5 pull ups. They all use the assisted.

I do 3 sets of 15 on the assisted machine.

Another reason i hate going to the gym is waiting to use equipment, or benches or weights.

Can you go at a less peak time? Or if all else fails, change gyms.

Nobody cares what you lift man, you're there trying to improve yourself like everyone else.

Hey i use my being fat in the gym to motivate me to work harder while I am there. I hate for anyone to be better then me at anything. (Good thing I am used to disapointment though)

The only reason i started lifting weights is, i used to do cardio and sweat like a fiend and then i would do it for an hour and watch other people the juicebags at my gym werent even focused on their exercises they would kinda just hold their weights in their hands and lift without any real effort or care, and spend more time looking in the mirror and at chicks than actually working out, so i thought hey i can do this.
