I've just purchased a wireless router (Linksys WRT54GS).

    What I want to network

Desktop w/ internal ADSL modem and NIC
    Laptop w/ WiFi

My laptop can connect to the wireless router, simply by the router being on. However, I am unable to get internet access through it, which must mean that the connection between the router and the desktop is incorrect.

    Any thoughts? :hs:

Basicly, if I'm reading this right, you cannot get online at all through the router. Right?
    What kind of broadband?
Did you configure it for your ISP?

If you're DSL you usually have to login with username and password. Most cable broadband services you don't.

you don't need a router.... you just need a switch, then setup the desktop as a gateway.

Well, I already have the wireless router. Should I just take it back and get a switch with a wireless access point? :dunno:

I can get online through the internal ADSL modem on my desktop

And I can get my laptop to connect wirelessly to the router.

But the router does not seem to get any internet running through it.

I have the wireless router hooked up via cat5 from a port to an nic on my desktop. There is nothing connected to the "internet in" port on the router.

I thought it might've worked. but maybe I don't have any of the configurations set up correctly.

Save yourself a lot of headaches and bug your ISP for an external DSL modem with an Ethernet connection.
