MMA Rolling with fat people?

    How do you guys deal with this?
    When rolling, we start from the knees, so I find it hard to use agility to get a good initial position
    If on bottom, I can't close my guard around them, and it's tough to sweep a fat dude that's staying active

    Any tips?

    I used to be a fat dude and I always started on my back with smaller guys....you have to wait for them to make a mistake and make the most of it....If they just lay/stall tell them to move....

    Starting from the knees or not you should be bale to use some agility/quickness to get where you want to be.

    only one fat guy at my academy and he's pretty quick/agile himself for being 250ish - so it's not an issue.

    if you're going from the knees with a fat guy - an arm drag and take his back seems to be the best solution.

    you can also do what the guys at my school do.

    Tell me that you just want to go light then as soon as you start jump to your feet and run around me to pass guard or take my back.

    more schools nowadays are allowing one guy to stand and the other guy take the open guard/butt scoot position. so ill just get up on both feet and make them start as the bottom game.

    and then this is a bit of a dick move, but fat guys tend to do plenty of dick moves to me. from knees ill push their forehead and when they push back forward i spring up and wrap a 5-finger and sprawl on their head, then try to pass guard or take their back.

    dick moves by fat guys:
    -bench pressing you from any bottom position
    -wrapping their fat arm around your head & squeezing for a tap from any position
    -being fat
    -being stinky
    -ignoring common jiu jitsu ideas and trying to keylock you when their in your guard

    i have 250lb plus cops that train in my gym.

    a lot of the things you described aren't just fat people. maybe you're more just talking about big people in general?

    Wow, you can't close your guard? I've never had that problem. I can't even imagine having that problem.

    I just try hard to not let them get my whole back on the ground. We start on our knees as well, and I usually try to pull into the scissor sweep. The smaller guys will ninja their ways out of it, but it sometimes works on the big guys I'm I'll end up in mount :)

    hopefully you noticed my post was also a bit tongue in cheek.

    and i only say 145 because thats what i normally compete at, i dont stay at that weight for more than a few hours before i get back over 150 post weigh in.

    Actually tried to go to a scissor sweep, but when trying to stretch him out over my top leg I got squished

    This will be my future approach... at least I'll try
