fucking sucks :wtc: especially as a lower belt, i just want to quit right now. It's a huge disparity in skill level and theres no chance in hell i'll ever get there

Never rolled with anyone above a brown but that was rough enough! Luckily for me he was pretty tired by the time we rolled and we had the OU game on the radio so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

The first time I rolled with my instructor he was watching the rest of the class and just working me. Then he would hit a move and say "First move", "Second Move" He was literally going through the techniques from earlier in the class and using each move right in a row.

    Gotta agree bro.

I think you should be thankful you are given the opportunity to roll with them. You will not improve if you don't roll with people who can kick your ass. Since I'm not with a gym the highest belt we have that comes out is Purple and he kicks my ass all the time, but I always find myself improving. My base is getting better and I go for position more with him and don't risk any sub attempts.

The guys I spar with in kickboxing are faster and much more crisp than me, and kick my ass all around the ring. I learn a lot more from that then always being the aggressor, gives me the ability to work on my defense and footwork. It makes me think of other ways to attack a faster opponent/more head movement.

Guy's a douche that belongs in the main, not here. Look at his reply to the guy asking for mouth guard info.

Most of the time they are really nice and let me work my game and helping me along.

One of the best lessons I ever had was rolling with Roli for a few rolls when him and Hillary stopped by Memphis. He would talk to me and tell me what I was doing right and wrong as I did it.

on the rare occasion I get to roll with higher belt levels or even more advanced whites it's really awesome. as long as they are cool and teach you while kicking your ass it's definitely time well spent.

i was fucking happy i got the chance to roll with him, i soaked up everything (as much as i could) from him kicking my ass  especially from a guy that beat marcelo garcia, it was a small class today so he did some one on one with me and it's just incomprehensible for me how somebody has a knowledge database like that

I fucking love rolling with the guys who are way more advanced than me. I pretty much just try to survive.

I've learned a lot of small nuances about rolling that was never really explained verbally. I notice the difference after I roll with the less advanced people.

We dont have a belt system where I train.

I LOVE IT. Some places I do nothing but roll with the black belts.

Here's the run down if you're a white belt:

    1) Roll with a white belt. Have a clusterfuck spazzy roll, neither of you get anywhere.
    2) Roll with a blue/purple belt. They own you, but are so concerned with not getting tapped that they hold positions and you don't move for five minutes.
    3) Roll with a brown/black belt. They own you but are so good they hop from place to place, giving you space and opportunities as well as setting the pace of a flow roll and letting you feel and adapt to a smooth style you should get one day.

    3 sounds best to me.

i don't feel bad when i roll with guys higher up than me, honestly i feel that i'm lucky enough to go against more experienced guys and learn from the mistakes i make that they end up capitalizing on

I agree, but there's something fun about a clusterphuck spazzy roll.

    This.

I'm just starting out and I enjoy every little situation specific spar session we do even though its 90% white belts.

I love getting my ass handed to me by people that are that much more advanced. It's an opportunity to improve leaps and bounds.
