the first was what I think of a purple belt as moving like. flowing, not married to any position or sub, relaxed, always moving and working and letting the noose cinch slowly until I fucked up and he took advantage. it was great, I love rolling with guys like that.

next I rolled with a super strong ex-wrestler who powered through my guard, held me in my most frustrating position (a high & super tight side mount with hooks under the neck and far arm, gable gripping hands) who proceeded to muscle the position (no relaxation at all) while grinding the point his elbow into my neck and fighting the entire time for the americana. I defended well but in the end he had the americana 85% hooked up (I had my elbow inside of his forearm and had it pretty hidden under my body) and he just put on 100% of his muscle to try to get the tap. he got enough pressure on my elbow to make it pop (like, cracking knuckles pop, not bad pop) but he freaked out thinking he actually popped my elbow.

it was all good, i wasn't butthurt about the second guy, but the more I think about it the more it makes me think how much I dislike that kind of grappling. we were in the academy, and he was grappling like it was a tournament (cuz the dude doesn't know me) and he did everything through more strength and less technique, and spent at least 5 minutes doing asshole moves and being married to that americana.

anyway don't know if there's a point to this beyond just venting, are you guys more like grappler A or grappler B?

I'm more like grappler A, and dislike grappler B's style unless I know before hand that is what they are like so I can roll how they roll. Sort of pisses me off when we're rolling lightly and the next guy starts off 110%. If you want to go hard then just say so at the very least.

not to take anything away from the dude, it's just like the guy who beat me in the last tourny I did. beat me through superior strength and single-minded devotion to one technique and position instead of superior jiu-jitsu. but I can't argue with the fact that it gets the win.

it was the elbow in the neck that gets me. when I just relaxed and tried to show him I wasn't going to take the bait and give up my arm to defend the pressure on my neck, he just sat there and ground harder and harder.

but in better news they both gave me props on my relaxation, flow, speed, and hip movement. the first one also complemented my rubber guard.

yeah and it's the guys I have the hardest time dealing with. small compact super strong guys who wanna muscle everything. I'm long and lanky and while not weak, I'm not super strong.

it was a great experience and I thanked them both for their time, we sat and talked for a while afterwards. I didn't get my private lesson but I did get some good work in regardless.

What is your suggested best way to deal with those type of players(short, stocky, strong).

You, Bit, Chech have any good suggestions for dealing with those type? You try and put them on their back?

depends for me.. if the guy frustrates me by yanking on something trying to get something instead of trying to technically I take it up a notch..

If they're really light, like they should be in practice im as cool as a cat and let them submit me, i'll submit them.. and try to let them learn and try to practice my own shit as much as possible.

If they are a dick I will fucking ruin them (for drag on)

i grapple like the second guy. i think a lot of wrestlers do because thats what we did in wrestling, you use your strength/pressure to force people into situations in wrestling.

I can dig that. like I told my GF last night when she was getting butthurt about this story, this guy has probably moved like this since he was 6. it's probably all he has ever really known, and you can't fault someone for using what works.

for SURE man. this has always been my attitude, I don't have ANYTHING against that guy. he played his game and did it well: it kicked my ass.

I'm always an empty cup, everything is learning and there is no end or final goal. there is no such thing as mastery because mastery implies you have learned all there is to learn about a certain subject, which is impossible.
