MIL Role of scout cavalry in iraq?

    I'm going to join the army but not sure what mos i want to do. Was lookin at 19d scout cavs and wanted to know what they do in iraq as opposed to 11bs.

    They ride in more armored humvee's....

    No one besides the CS/CSS guys are really doing their bread and butter MOS in Iraq.

    So if they're in humvees then who gets the bradleys and such? :confused:

    No real scout wants to be stuck in a Bradley. Too tall, too loud. Sure, the extra firepower is nice, but you want it about 700-800 meters behind you. You need to be able to hear, see, smell, sense what's going on around you.

    Having said that, I'm something of a product of Cold War-era training. Iraq/A-stan may run differently than what I was used to. I'm sure the 19D's over there are stuck being entry teams, prisoner guards, and whatever shit detail the battalion commander can come up with. We weren't called 19-Detail for nothing, y'know.

    From what I have been told some are driving snipers out to the field and dropping them off, watching places that the insurgents are caching weapons, and escorting convoys. A friend of mine that is in SF said some scouts took his team into a place in their track. They used the track as a breaching tool, backed it into a mud hut and dropped the ramp so they could run inside and detain some people. Sounded interesting.

    what exactly is CS/CSS? is it combat related, communications?
