I know this lens has been talked about recently and after seeing the shots from Turbodude, I decided to grab one. I started in film 15 years ago so I'm comfortable with MF lenses, it's just my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Thinking of getting a Katz eye, but the focus indicator seems to work pretty good on the D300.

It came in today and I rushed outside before the sun went down to grab a few quick shots.

First thoughts, it's sharp at 1.4 (when focused correctly). But the CA is crazy wide open.

After importing them into lightroom they lack quite a bit of contrast and the yellows and red seem to clip a little.

    Anyway, here's some samples.

CA is bad in this one.

You can see you really have to nail the focus @ 1.4

    Here's it mounted:

You mean a < $300 f1.4 lens is going to have some CA wide open?! What junk!

I know, right. What the hell is wrong with these cheap lens companies?

Seriously though the CA isn't much worse than my thrifty fifty.

That's a good thing. Once you see it you'll always see it. It's bad in the tree pic, I need to post a 100% crop and you'll see it in the bark and grass. I have one of a helicopter that flew over that I didn't post. Blue sky w/ white and red heilicopter shows lots of fringing.

Although that might have been easier, I was racking the focus as he was running towards me. I'm that good.

    J/K. I got lucky.
