So, Sony just announced the a700 camera and finally there are some images of it with the attached grip. Now we all knew the grip was going to be weird, but just wait till you see the back of it. :bowrofl:

I don't see that much wrong with it ... it's actually a pretty good idea ... a little odd that the shutter button isn't on the top and all the controls are shifted down about an inch but at least everything can be reached without moving your hand

I can reach everything on my Canon and Nikons that I've used without changing my grip, and neither have 11ty9 buttons on the grip. :dunno:

Just looks like piss poor design to me.

I cant reach the joystick on my MkIII from the vertical grip. Its a pain in the ass when chimping in the vertical position.

I really hate that Sony has anything to do with Minolta...I loved my 7, and my 7D. They built a nice camera, good UI. Solid cameras....Not sure how it is going to be with Sony.

(And just that I don't really like Sony)

Thinking about starting a Canon or Nikon kit now....

Sony doesn't have anything to do with Minolta. They just bought their assets for the photographic division. :hsugh:

BTW, this camera isn't much different than the old 7D. It's just and evolutionary update to it. Aside from that laughable grip, it actually looks like a pretty nice camera.

    not entirely ridiculous

the reason why they put the multi-way selector on the grip is because the one on the body is too far away if you are shooting in portrait orientation.

it probably doesn't have flex problems like the awesome grip for the 20d and 30d either :mamoru:

They have something to do with Minolta in terms of if I want to go out and buy a lens, brand new, I have to buy a "Sony" lens. Or if I want to upgrade I have to buy a Sony camera. So in my photolife Sony does have something to do with Minolta...

Yes I know it isn't a merger or anything. :ugh:

And yes I know Sony makes plenty of chips and sensors and great TVs etc....but I just don't like the idea of using a "Sony" camera. *shrug* :noes:

That's the gayest reason ever for wanting to buy a different camera.

Anyways, the business strategy folks at Canon are asleep if they aren't aware of Sony threatening to take major chunks of marketshare at the entry and mid-level digital camera and digital SLR market. That's the core of their business.

    It's weather sealed magnesium! SUPER!

The only reason you couldn't reach the multi controller with the grip attached appears to be because the grip is 4 stories tall. (and the controller is about the size of a gnat) :mamoru:

Better to have a grip that works and is super tall than one that shuts your camera off right before your exposure
