obviously they won't be on the same level as the $1k 1911's but are these good for plinking and self defense?

i'd want to change the trigger, hammer and put an ambi-safety lever on it. are the parts pretty much interchangeable?

there were no g34s at the gun show so i guess ill be buying from the gun on xdtalk when i get the rest of the money. :o

I have one, I'm happy with it.Only jammed once out of the 700 or so rounds I've put through it, and that was within the first hundred, so I chalked it up to just breaking in. And yes, all parts are interchangeable. Only problem is that I can't figure out how to field strip it. Probably my fault rather than the gun itself though.

If I get a 1911 this will probably be the one unless I find a good deal on a Springfield.

I've had mine for 2 years now with no problems at all. Took a bit to break it in, and a ramp polish to feed JHP's but now it's great. I'm also slowing replacing MIM parts as I have money. Excellent gun, and even better deal for the price.

They are pretty decent for a base model 1911.

There was one for $320 at the gun show. I should have picked it up. :o

I've been tempted to buy one. I don't know a whole lot about 1911's so I don't think that I'll be bothered by the fact that it didn't cost 2K. I kinda want a 1911 now because I have an itch to buy something new and I love customizing things.

I thought the Taurus 1911 doesn't have interchangeable parts with anything else? Not sure on that though.

Ninja edit - or am I thinking of the Llama?

Has the PT1911 even been released yet? My dealer keeps telling me that they're pushing it back over and over again.

it has been for a couple of weeks now. however i think its only the blued version and dealers are pricing them kinda crazy because of the demand. I have not seen any around here personally, once the initial hype has gone over i might pick up one.

the PT-92 was my first real gun and it was $330, i was really happy with it and it was a lot of bang for the buck.

I won't buy one unless it's got interchangable parts. What's the verdict on the Taurus?

Yea, over on 1911.com they have seen prices as low as $400 and as high as $700 for the PT1911.
So far all the reviews have been outstanding except for one thing, the trigger. Apparently with the safety shit inside it makes the trigger about 7 lbs with creep.

gun shows are stupid. often i have to ask them why they price things over MSRP.

I was just at the gun shop today and they had one demo model of the Taurus 1911. They wanted either $529 or $549, can't remember which. Really attractive and very solid in the hand and was on par in quality with a Springfield 1911 from what i could tell.

gun shop around here at a bunch of the blue taurus's. they had them at 460 I think. I only asked about the sights and the guy said could not interchange. Not sure about the rest of the gun.

I just talked to a buddy who just finished gunsmithing school. He used an RIA as his project 1911 and he said that everything was interchangable :dunno:.

Like most GI style heaters, you'll probably have to have the front dovetailed, it's just the half moon blade style.

Only thing I hate about the womans 1911. It direly needs real sights.
