So yeah, I passed my EPME 6 test today with a 100% score. Next up is the OS1 EOCT, then the May service wide examine. This is a huge advancement if I make it off the May SWE. All together (BAH w/ dependant raise & 6 year longevity in July '07) it'll be about $10k more per year. :naughty:

Yeah, but my rate exploded when they merged Telecommunications Specialists (which I was) with the Radamen rate to form Operations Specialist in '03, which opened a lot of room for advancement to E-5 and E-6. The sad thing is I could have made E-6 when I'd only been in for 3 years, but I didn't want to have the extra responsibility when I was only 20 y/o. Advancement is pretty quick in the Coast Guard in general anyways.

Haha. Actually a lot of our pilots are prior Army pilots. But most of them did about 10 years or less in the Army. The CG is a great service with a lot of room for early advancement and opportunity. Not to mention there are several land jobs that my rate accepts civilians as employees. We have a retired LCDR CG pilot and a retired Chief who are GS-11's doing the search and rescue coordinator job's normally given to OS1's/E-6's. Double dipping FTW.

You were smart not to try it at six. That will pay off in the long run as you avoided an opportunity to really fuck up.

    Good luck on the '6.
