after the announcements yesterday, it's pretty clear to me that Apple is no longer a computer company first. They're a content delivery machine that happens to make computers.

RIP Apple  :rl: :sad2: :wtf: :hs:

They made their major announcement regarding the direction of their computers over the Summer. What more do you want?

so, who would u consider a computer company? seriously, i mean, atleast they are trying to release new stuff.
All other "companies" such as dell, seem to release the same stuff, over and over. Atleast Apple is coming up with new ideas (lmao, i typed it iDeas), and arnt just keeping the same 3 base computers, and like adding cool new colors. Plus, the intel chips should be within the next 3 months.

I could be wrong, or missunderstanding what ur saying.

This just in: Microsoft is no longer a software developing company. They are now just a bank that buys other companies software and puts their name on it.

Hey, it's OK. Apple is a much better software/interface company than they ever were a hardware company. This is GOOD news. Let other people make the hardware -- let apple concentrate on kick ass software.

I'm DYING to take my Mac Mini, get Front Row on it (not sure if it'll work now.. but i'm sure it will work down the line), and put it in my home theater system..

they have to do something new in the market to keep market share growing. their computers, though great, aren't penetrating enough so when they sell iPods and such, they get the apple name in households which help to promote their brand and hopefully get some to make the switch.

that's kinda my point -- worrying about market share and penetration makes them no different from every other company. I think apple best served its customers as a niche product, and this is a departure from that niche, which I think will hurt their computing platform in the end... I dunno.

give them some time...you know they have a few things up their sleeves and it is definitely got some customers on their toes. that may be a bad thing but I could result in a very good thing, especially if most rumors are true about the intel chips.

I was being sarcastic. I've been with Apple for 12 years, so no grudges here.

I was first introduced to Apple Computer when it was in OS X Jaguar. (I still don't understand how they update their operatin system; I was a longtime PC user) They have made some great innovations with sharing, backing-up, digital media, which makes HP's solutions look like shit, and they are innovatin their line-up to be current/ intel. Don't let iPods distract you. I think of the iPod as funding for the greater accomplishments for their computer.

No truth. If they were to get out of computers why would they make a two year plan for making Intel Macs?

 all I'm saying is that the iPod's success seems to have shifted the company's focus IMO, and I don't like it -- I don't feel like they are computers-first anymore, but we'll see how that goes with time.
