    drag to garageband
select < 30 seconds of song by enabling the cycle region button next to the FF button. Drab the vertical bar to select the region of time you want.
Share => Send to iTunes as Ringtone

I just do the whole thing in itunes.

    Right click song
    click "get info"
    click "options" tab
change start and stop time to whatever you want
    click "advanced" at top
    click "convert selection to mp3"

Actually, you've got 40 seconds instead of 30, but it's dead on

I do something similar to this. But I convert to AAC. Once it's converted, I rename to .m4r and import back to iTunes.

What is so hard about right clicking your song in itunes and typing in the seconds you want your song to play at and then clicking convert and bluetoothing it to your phone?
