Explain this to me. My old head unit had one sub/rear pre-out. I decided to use that port to amp my front comps. But it made them sound like pure shit. So I picked up a new head unit with front, rear, and sub pre-outs rewired my comps and now it sounds no shit 200xs better.

I don't understand if my original head unit had pre-outs why didn't it sound just like it does now?

is it possible that there was a crossover being applied to the pre-outs on the old deck seeing as you said it was a 'subwoofer out'....and now the new deck has a proper front, rear, and seperate sub out? :dunno:

I was thinking this too but wouldn't a xover eliminate most of the clarity so I would only have bass?

Clarity? No. It would cut the highs and mids, which would have the effect of making your speakers sound muted. Mids and highs can still be heard, just softly.
