He does insane volume... something like 1500 total reps in one hour. He goes pretty light though. Makes me wonder whether he's just wasting time in the gym or that kind of training is actually effective. I'd think even for fighting, he'd be better off toning down the volume and upping the weight.

would this depend on fight style too? franklin tends too throw out a lot of combos (and therefore, a lot of punches) so maybe high volume would be good for him? versus someone like dan henderson who throws out like one punch for the knockout, maybe he does lower volume more weight to strengthen that one punch?

    impressive, i couldn't do it

would've been more awesome if all the circuit exercises were oly lifts and free-weights instead of machines though

I dont think so but I'm not entirely sure myself, as far as my reasoning goes more reps = more cardio/stamina/endurance and throwing combos u could have great power in every strike you throw compared to if u just throw the one bomb continually u could have the knockout power in every punch doing light weight.

Rich Franklin is a beast. This just goes to show that olympic lifts and low rep/high weight isn't for everyone. His athleticism is admirable and he trains accordingly for his goals.

seems strange to see a fighter doing leg extentions, but I'm sure there's reason behind it.

Doing super high reps is retarded. Use the weight room to get stronger and the punching bag or sparring partner to build endurance.

doesn't seem plausible to match the energy of a fight w/a bag or sparring.

THis is how most people train their fighters even Defranco and all most MMA camps. Not necessarily with machines but big time circuit training for ridiculous amounts of time.

:dunno: free weights make a bit more sense then machines but it still seems like heavy sparing would be better.

the idea is to increase anaerobic threshold
In Muay Thai fights are either won in the first or last round
you either win by being superior in your abilities or by being better conditioned. This type of stuff improves your conditioning.

martial artists love the crossfit generally

Most just cycle in fresh sparring partners to keep you on your toes.
