Franklin surgery a success; Champ Out for 6-8 Months

UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin is recovering in Las Vegas after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair a broken left hand suffered in defense of his title Saturday against David Loiseau. The Cincinnati native, who scored a unanimous decision over Loiseau at UFC 58, had a plate and seven screws inserted in his hand, which was injured in round two of the five round bout. He is expected to be out for 6 to 8 months.

Do you think this plate in his hand will harm his career?

Loiseau did more damage because of his hard head than he did with his hands and feet

Loiseau should have won the fight.

Yeah because GSP owned BJ just like Rich did David :ugh2:

I just watched that fight again last night and there is no way in hell GSP should have won the decision... Even when GSP took him down, BJ was the one doing more damage...

What did GSP do to win rounds 2 & 3?? He had a few take downs but did little with them... BJ landed lots and lots of punches during those 2 rounds, granted none of them were overly damaging (but neither was anything GSP did)...

You can make a good case to give the decision to GSP, but he still looked WEAK... Win or lose, BJ looked like the much better fighter... The only real credit I can give GSP in that fight is that BJ could not take him down at all, and that single slam he had that might have caused some minor damage...

Just count the number of kicks landed by GSP. Just because you don't see blood when you get kicked, doesn't mean it didn't hurt. THAT SHIT WEARS ON YOU AS THE ROUNDS GO ON.

That's why BJ Penn couldn't throw as many punches in the 2nd and 3rd which ultimately led to him being controlled and taken down. The kicks wore him down.

Penn threw like 2 kicks the whole fight. GSP threw at least 50 or more. I'll even count if someone doubts that number

BTW, these are just kicks. GSP landed many punches as well. Even in the first round, GSP held his own. He wasn't getting owned like BJ nuthuggers are making it to be. BJ couldn't even take GSP down in the first round despite the blood in his eye and everything else. Why not? Because GSP wasn't as hurt as he looked. Blood is deceiving. Stop using that excuse as your only way out.

Even GSP said in his post-fight interview that he was in trouble and that he thought he was gonna get knocked out.

That being said... I was at the fight in Vegas, I bet $300 on Penn and I think he deserved to lose.

Exactly. You can bleed and not be hurt. But over a dozen solid kicks to your leg and you'll be hurting, guaranteed. Leg kicks don't look impressive, but they are effective in preventing your opponent from doing anything hard with their legs.

I just came home from work. And I'm glad this thread has a lot of posts, but not ONE dealing with the subject.

again, look at Fedor vs. Cro Cop. Fedor looked like a battered wife after the fight, and Cro Cop looked pretty solid. judging by that alone, Fedor got pummelled into the ground, but we all know the real story...
