As many of you know I took over a year off from competing to get my weight down and deal with work, life, etc. Well I returned to the lifting platform this past weekend.

After a crazy trip to Vegas two weekends ago I woke up Monday morning at 259, which I was not happy about. Started water loading. 2.5 gals of water Monday and Tuesday. About 3 quarts Wednesday. Thursday I kept it to 12oz throughout the day with 6 eggs in the morning for breakfast. Got to Lakeland around midnight and was 245. I didn't lose any weight over night so I had to spend a good amount of time in the sauna. After a miserable time in the sauna, I weighed in at 242.5.

Spent the rest of the day at Disney. Drank two gallons of Gatorade, chocolate milk, ice cream, and feasted a few times. Weight was back to 257 by meet time.

I didn't have a handler, so I was a bit nervous. This used to be a USAPL meet, so they were strict on depth. This was one of those meets where I pulled out my Ace Squatter and people were looking in shock at it. Mostly single ply and raw lifters. About 20 people at the meet.

Meet director didn't allow chalk on the back and you had to baby powder your legs outside. No hundred pound plates, so the bar was whippy. Other than that it was a smooth meet, very well run meet.

Warm ups went great. Made plate jumps and suited up at 315. Straps up at 495. Took my last warmup with 645. "Big Dog" from All American Gym wrapped my knees for my opener. Great wrap.

    Squat:
705 opener was solid, passed my next two attempts.

Bench warmups kinda sucked. They were not moving the uprights on the bench up and down so everyone had a hard time getting a good setup and hand off. 135x5, 225x1, 315x1, Shirt on, 365x1 three board, 405x1 two board, 455x1 1 board.

    Bench:
Opened with 505, took it down bodybuilder style and touched way too high. Got about 3/4 of the way up and stalled and had them take it. Retook 505 on my second, put a little more in my shirt (same shirt I wore at 300lbs), brought it low and drove through lockout for a solid rep. Passed on my third.

Deadlift was a breeze. Hardest part was getting my suit back on. Warm ups went 225x1, 405x1, 545x1 (straps up)

Loosened my straps a bit from the 545 and pulled a solid 605 opener to qualify me for Seniors.

Ended up with [email protected] Took first in the 242's and won best lifter.

Team Elite is a group of teenage lifters in the Lakeland area and they were amazing to watch. They had one coach that called all of their attempts and wrapped every kids knees... like 8 lifters worth in the first flight. They won the team award.

I have to thank our new Southside teammate Ian for sticking around. He had some problems with the squat and bombed but stuck around to help me out. It was nice to meet Tim James face to face and bullshit with him all day. Gotta thank Mike from Critical Bench for the t-shirts and giving me the opportunity to test the Apex over the next few weeks. I'm sure its going to be a great shirt. Gotta thanks my Southside teammates for checking in on me throughout the day and for their support. Lastly gotta thank my girl Samantha for putting up with my carb depleted, dehydrated ass during a 4 hour drive and after a 45 minute sauna session. She also filmed the meet and held boards for us warming up on the bench.

    Next stop, Seniors!

Awesome job man. Is that legal that you weighed in more than 15lbs less than what you actually lifted at? I assume not but..

I dehydrated to weigh in at 242.5lbs (the max for the 242 class) and put my weight back on. Its common practice in powerlifting federations with 24 hour weigh ins. Lots of wrestlers, strongmen, boxers, and MMA fighters do it, too.

Brian Carrol is cutting from 280lbs to make 242 for a meet this weekend.
