im buying an amp soon (for subs)

if i buy a 300w amp, and connect two subs in parallel that means 300w/sub = 600w total, right?

or a 600w amp, connected in parallel to two subs, 600w/sub = 1200w total?

Not exactly. When you say 300 watts, is that RMS or peak, and is it total power, or 300 watts bridged? We need more info than you provided. Generally when you bridge an amp, you double the power because you are summing the two channels into one. If you specify what amp you are getting, that would help.

    jbl 300.1 = 300w max power x1 @2 ohms
    jbl 600.1 = 600w max power x1 @2 ohms

and im planning on getting 1 or 2 alpine type-r or type-s 12's

Well it depends on your speaker's voice coil nominal impedence. If the Alpines have for example 4ohm voice coils, then wiring them in parallel will give you a 2ohm load, and with the 300.1 you will get the full 300 watts, but you wont get 600.

As well, it depends on the amplifier you use. Is it Dynamic power or not?
