I'm working on testing the latest service pack from MS for all of our applications, and I've noticed a couple of interesting things right off the bat:

    1) The Firewall is enabled from the get-go with File & Printer Sharing disabled - this will limit your access to the C$ share on computers.

    2) Prompts users to choose a couple of options during installation/reboot - haven't checked for switches yet to disable this from a command-line installation initiation.

I'll be updating this throughout the next couple of days, including specific applications and compatibility issues. Oh, and I didn't actually notice a speed increase over our usual XP SP1a loads.

I'm scared for once this hits all of my stores in auto-update - prompts = nono.

I installed it on my laptop last night. So far, so good. It recognized my AVG Anti-Virus and didn't have any problem with Aston Shell.

Things work great for me so far, only problem is it won't recognize Norton Anti-Virus yet, but that has been known for a while

I'll try it out... do they have good response time to new viruses?

I did read somewhere that Symantec will release an update in the next couple weeks to work with SP2.... I'll try AVG for that time atleast :)

I've got it on my laptop and desktop now. It seems like a worthwhile upgrade....hopefully it stays true to those words

Upgrade seemed to go OK. I was greated after it rebooted by this:

It looks like the utility that I was using to control my wireless access card doesn't work at all now. When ever I use it it doesn't locate any APs and crashes frequently. I chaged it back to allow windows to handle the wireless stuff. After copying over my WEP key it connected and all was back to normal. So far so good.

Did anyone's machines get slower? Here's my specs:
    Asus p4s8x-x motherboard
    Intel 2.8ghz processor
    ATI All-In-Wonder 9700 128mb video card
    Crucial pc2700 512mb DDRsdram
    Maxtor 120gb/60gb Hard drives
    WinXP home.

I reverted back to SP1, and everything went back to normal.

During the limited testing that I was able to accomplish today, I found the following applications (some of which a lot of people won't recognize) work perfectly fine:

    1) Digital Docs
    2) Borland Database Engine (V.3)
    3) .Net Framework 1.0
    4) .Net Framework 1.1 (duh :o )
    5) Calyx Point 4.3
    6) Del Mar DataTrac 7.X (don't remember the exact version & build off-hand)
    7) DHTML-based content

The update maintained ODBC connection settings, however I haven't checked version differences with the drivers yet.

One program that I tested, AMB (Account for Mortgage Bankers v.6 from Advantage System), has an issue with registering an OCX that has been compiled with VS6 SP2 and lower and it prohibits the program from operating properly. I haven't started the process of figuring out if I can allow this OCX to be registered without having it recompiled.

I like the new wireless settings screen... a lot easier to work with and look at than those damn old dialog boxes

... I got AVG up and running too... so far so good :bigthumb:

I dropped AVG in favor of this. It's another option to consider.

Anyway, I installed SP2 on at work. Aside from an extra popup-blocker check box in internet options, I haven't noticed any big changes.

Yeah, we're tempted to block it as well. Microsoft has already moved everyone to using v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com, so they're prepping to release it to the auto-update world soon :hs:
