So i am an idiot and upgraded my laptop to windows 7 without formatting it. the laptop didnt come with any recovery cd, just a recovery partition (which was deleted). i know the partition is still there, i just cant access it or boot from it :(

is there any way to recover it or access it?

If you are upgrading it on your own, is there really a point to keeping it?

I guess check the Disk Manager for the partition. If its still there and you didnt format over it, then it may just need a drive letter assigned to it to be seen.

    Maybe.

    a much appreciated thank you!

i tried to boot the partition to restore the computer but for some reason i couldnt get to it. at start up, the only option to enter the bios is pressing the Lenovo Care button. once i get there, i go to the boot page but i still have no option to boot from the specific Servicev003 partition.

any ideas on what i should do?

Boot into an Ubuntu live disc and run GParted. Here you can enable (or disable) the boot flag for that partition.

so i just did all that. there was a boot flag on the Servicev003 partition and nothing on the other 2 partitions. i "removed" (or wahtever) the flag and restarted the computer, it kept going into some weird sequence listing drivers or something on the computer...something about Boardcom i think.
it kept doing that till i realized nothing was gonna happen (the boardcom message kept repeating itself). ran ubuntu again, put the boot on the servicev003 partition and restarted again and i'm back to win7.

the thing about lenovo computers is that they dont give you service discs if you want to reformat your computer...they throw in another partition with all the necessary files...if you wanna reformat, you boot from that partition and restore the computer. that's what i'm trying to do :(

Which goes back to my original question. You upgraded to windows 7 on your own.. so you know(or at least think you know) what you are doing. Why the fuck do you even care about that recovery partition?

Did you buy a computer that you are getting a free upgrade this fall to windows 7, and you are just experimenting now or something?
