I've been having problems shutting down and restarting my computer. After start, turn off computer, restart or shutdown, my computer will go to the logoff screen and then the end program prompt pops up with end now or cancel every time. If I just let it sit there it'll say program not responding and I'm forced to manually turnoff my computer.

    btw I'm running xp pro.

so what's your task list look like before you shut down??? What task is it trying to end?

what antivirus software are you using, when was it last updated, and what were the results of the last scan (and when was it done)

Also run spybot S&D and adaware.

I'd get rid of ZoneAlarm to start with. The Windows firewall does a fine job, as long as you don't mind not being told what's going on. At any rate, ZoneAlarm is practically malware itself, it locks down your computer so tight.

It doesn't say, just says ending program please wait or somthing. If you click end now or cancel it fucks up either way.

It should tell you what process is not shutting down in the title bar of that window that pops up.

Have you run Spybot yet as Jolly suggested?

 Glad to be of service.

If you really want an aftermarket firewall, you should take a look at Sygate Personal Firewall. You can download it off www.download.com. Jolly will tell you it's a piece of shit, but he can go fuck himself for all I care.
