A co-worker of mine (who speaks very broken English) brought his laptop to me asking how to get past the BIOS password screen. He's had the laptop for a while and it was working fine until sometime yesterday when he put in a tutorial CD and it said he was missing some files. He restarted & is now at this problem.

I Googled for a few different solutions and the only one I could see was calling Dell. Since the laptop is so outdated and he can't speak English well I don't know what to do. Is there some generic p/w system they use?

Well if the board is anything like a PC motherboard you can just reset the jumper to do it.

    Laptops generally don't have jumpers.

Im not sure about the Dell, but I know every IBM ive ever worked on (and thats a lot) has a cmos battery right under the keyboard. If you arent afraid to open it up, track down the keyboard screws on the bottom and pull it up. Then look for the battery (if there is one).
