I'm in the DEP for active duty Navy and am starting to consider going reserves instead... Anybody got any advice or input? :)

Do you want to devote your entire life to the Navy? If you have doubts go reserves.

dude, just do the active thing. you will get many life experiences, and its only 4 years. plus, in that time you can save up $ for a house, car, and all that bullshit. seriously, id recommend that, and then go reserves after your active time is up and start a nice civilian life with what youve established in the past 4 years.

I went Reserves. I'm sad and happy that I did so. I hated my job, so I'm glad I went Reserves. I'm sad that I didn't go active duty, because it was a burden for me to travel 50 miles every month for stupid reserve shit, I would have liked the added independence, as well as the extra cash.

with the amount of time the reserves deploy, whats the point...go reserve and keep having you life interrupted and job screwed up, or just go active and let it be your job

Thanks man, pretty much what I needed to hear again. (It's nice to just get re-affirmed on things :) )

Thanks for input everyone... I'm going to stay with my original commitment and go 5 years active.

Just had to sort stuff out in my head, kind of reaffirm to my self what I'm doing again lol

Thats what I was doing for two years prior to this deployment. I was in and out of one job for various training. Some of it was good, useful stuff. Others of it was boring and a waste of my time. Instead of the typical one weekend a month, we were doing a Thursday night and all day Friday in addition to that weekend. Our annual training period was 24 days instead of the two weeks.

Once we get home, its supposed to go back to normal. I'll believe that when I see it.

There are some of those chill reserve units out there. I need to get into one of those now that I'm working at the DOIM.
