I hit a PR on deads last week @545lbs and did it again this week. All with no belt. I think if you're feeling it that much in your back you're probably using poor form.

I start using belt at 2 plates. I just feel safer when I use the belt. I don't think the belt helps my lift in any way and I want to be extra careful.

I usually put the belt on kinda loose once I get to 405 or so then tighten it up as I get heavier.

Is using a belt bad? Like how I see using straps is bad because it doesn't work your grip strength as hard. So is using a belt making some of my muscles do less work?

it lets you lift more than you can. It's completely possible to get your core stronger while still using a belt with other accessory work, or especially if you try, for example, put the belt on at a weight 5 or 10 lbs higher every week.

I've never done a single back extension or weighted ab workout in my life and I can pull 450x5 without a belt. (Disclaimer: yes everyone is different)

You need to start pulling for more than just singles. Doing 315x1 then 345x1 isn't going to build your core strength. Start doing more reps at less weight if all you can do is singles above 315lbs. 345x12 is a lot harder than 450x5 was, at least for me, but it feels fantastic.
