I don't know how, but my friend got sharpie on the area next to the touchpad where u rest ur wrists when ur typing. he got it off, but now its all scratched up. i have the applecare warranty. do you think apple would replace that part for free? i highly doubt they would, but the scratches look bad.

doubt they would replace it because it wasn't a defect. should of taken it off with some "goo-gone" in stead of scrapping it off.

give them a call, good like though. and btw.. it's the whole top case, including keyboard and track pad.

I have a Marware cover on the wrist wrest on my MBP. Works great. Washable and more comfortable. Also comes with a cloth that covers the keyboard when closed to keep from getting the oils from your fingers on the keys on the screen or getting marks when the laptop gets squished while closed and the keys push into the screen.

the button on my touchpad is fucked, it gets stuck a lot. if i tell them to replace that, will that also replace the whole plastic part where the scratches are?

yes, but they may not replace it if they see all the scratches. i'm not trying to discourage you from trying, but they might not do it.

Anyone else have any ideas on how I could get the piece replaced under warranty?

Depending on your serial number, it may be covered past apple care as it is a defect in the plastic.
