Was reading an issue of Small Arms Review and found this in the Military arms section. Here is the US Military's replacement for the 128 pound M2: The XM307 ACSW or Advanced Crew Served Weapon: Weighing in at 49 pounds this interchangeable 25mm and 12.7mm machine gun looks bad ass. It has a chronograph and fuse setter in the muzzleflash so that all the rounds (read fuzes) can be armed before leaving the gun, but not while in the chamber. Rounds can be armed and prepared for an airburst after a set amount of time, effectively allowing a soldier to shoot around corners. It also has a fire control system that enhances hit probability and allows for night operations. Better view of the fire control system: I would not want to be an insurgent on the business end of that. The fact that it weighs 50 pounds is amazing. A two man team could carry this shit around, and set up a defensive firing position in a matter of seconds...compare that to the 140 pound MK19 and 128 pound M2 and you have some serious firepower in a small package. I wonder when I can get one.
