Was reading an issue of Small Arms Review and found this in the Military arms section.

Here is the US Military's replacement for the 128 pound M2:

The XM307 ACSW or Advanced Crew Served Weapon:

Weighing in at 49 pounds this interchangeable 25mm and 12.7mm machine gun looks bad ass. It has a chronograph and fuse setter in the muzzleflash so that all the rounds (read fuzes) can be armed before leaving the gun, but not while in the chamber. Rounds can be armed and prepared for an airburst after a set amount of time, effectively allowing a soldier to shoot around corners. It also has a fire control system that enhances hit probability and allows for night operations.

Better view of the fire control system:

I would not want to be an insurgent on the business end of that.

The fact that it weighs 50 pounds is amazing. A two man team could carry this shit around, and set up a defensive firing position in a matter of seconds...compare that to the 140 pound MK19 and 128 pound M2 and you have some serious firepower in a small package.

I wonder when I can get one. :x:

I would love to see that thing send a 25mm airbursting round towards the corner of a building and explode, and then see the aftermath around the corner. Its sad to see the M2 get pwnd but it definately had its time.

BTW the airbursting round (fragments) will penetrate PASGT helmets and vests.

    Considering that:
"Compared to the MK19 40mm grenade launcher that fires its rounds in a high arc, the XM307 fires on a flatter trajectory, boosting their velocity and letting Soldiers put three rounds on a target at 1,200 meters in the same time it takes the MK19 to send just one."

    :eek3:

How about a ROF of 260 RPM...Id say hell yeah.

    I'll stick with the M2.
That thing sounds awesome, and is a great idea on paper, but I am doubtful of anything like that, with all sorts of electronics and such, will perform well out in the field.

My next MG is gonna be a Ramo M2-HB strictly because of the way it sounds. I don't enjoy any machine gun fire more than a Browning 50 cal.

So like is there a lesser chance that the MK19 rounds won't explode on you?
