Should I just send the lens to Canon or is there a better repair place than them?

The lens is out of warranty and is having some focus issues and probably needs to be cleaned as well..

Where do you send your out of warranty Canon lenses?

Minus whale, unless you know someone with CPS

my dad broke the mount on his 16-35, was less than 250. I'm sure yours would be less, but make sure it's insured

    CPS?

How would it get it insured? Do you mean insured in shipping?

I don't know anyone with CPS? So should I still send it to Canon or is there someone else?

I dropped my 300mm lens and I had it fixed at United Camera http://www.unitedcamera.com/ in 2008. It took a long time because they had delays in obtaining a part, but they have excellent customer service.

I sent it in Aug or Sept because I have Michigan season tix and I needed the lens for that. It got to be around Halloween and I started calling. That's when they told me about the part issue. I called mid-November and I told them this was the last game of the season and I really needed my lens. They did not have my lens ready so they let me use their Nikon 400mm lens for the weekend. For free. I would recommend them to anybody.

yes insured shipping but insuring it on a personal articles policy is always a good idea

Fucking dot on United Camera. That's where my store sends all their repairs. They're quick (our average time including 2 way UPS, is about 3 weeks) and great at what they do. Canon/Nikon/Sony authorized warranty center too.

I sent the Yashica i made a thread about to them. They received it yesterday, so lets see how that works out. I might just send this lens to them as well.
