Renameing files in OS X

    How do I rename files in OSX from terminal?

    the rename command doesnt work. If that is a command.

    i beleive you have to use the mv command (since it's bsd/unix based)

    mv(1) is correct.

    You could set up an alias if you *must* have a 'rename' command.

    'alias rename=mv'

    put that into the rc scripts for your shell.
