what does teh 40D use a different shutter release cable than the XTi? is it the port on the side of the camera that is different or is there something different going on in the trigger? I have a trigger for teh XTi and dont want to spend uneeded money for one for a 40D

Xti uses a earphone style plug, and the XXD/5D use a big circular plug.

    It sucks, bu it's life.

why spend money on a converter when remote shutters are cheap. this is the cheapest thing you can buy for the camera

yeah. the rebel users actually have the good life. they can get wireless shutter releases for under 30 bucks. the ones for the XXD's are in the hundreds and theyre big and bulky.

I just picked up a wired onef or my 40d for like 20 bucks I think

well the reason I am being cheap is cause I just recently spent 20 bucks to extend my wired cable and additional 20 feet and used it once:mamoru:

I checked out a 40D this afternoon adn it has some weird 3 hole plug that you need to fit. So it looks like I will be selling my shutter cable and extension

You can buy the proper cable from a camera store or you can get a chinese knock off from ebay for CHEAP. In the astrophotography world that I lurk in we used an exact copy of canons $179 timer/remote cable that people sell on ebay for less than $50 including shipping.

Search for Phottix remote timers on ebay. hehe just remembered the name. Some companies also sell wireless ones too.
