Cabelas in Michigan has it on sale through next Thursday or Friday I believe. $569.99 in store and you get another $50 mail in rebate after that price. Seems like a half way decent price actually...I might pick it up tomorrow.

they're all over gunbroker for under $500 :coolugh: $520 isn't really a deal at all, plus they're only available in .308 and 7mm-08.

On Gunbroker you have to pay shipping and FFL transfers and shit don't you? I was looking at the .308 but I guess that isn't overly necessary.

What size would someone suggest for someone just target shooting? I don't hunt so I'm not worried about size of bullet...just want long range accuracy.

:naughty: Don't need to go quite that hardcore. Was looking for something a little less expensive ammo wise and probably a more popular round. In reality a .308 might serve the purpose just fine.

    .416 rigby?

Honestly .308 or .30-06 are as big as you should go. Both are popular rounds with reasonably priced target ammo available, and both can be accurate out to nice distnaces.

Right. I'm not looking to break world records. If I ever get proficient at ~900 yards or so I'd be happy. I have to go out to my Dads house to shoot at those distances anyhow.

I don't know much about the 7mm-08 though. I might read up on that round.

All I know about the 7mm-08, is that it is a .308 necked down to 7mm. They are supposed to be flat and accurate.

I'd just shell out the extra money and buy an SPS varmint or tactical or something along those lines; if you're just target shooting a mountain weight barrel is going to heat up pretty fast.

.308 is fine for anything up to 750 yards, right?

That was the plan and I still may. I just saw the sale in the paper today which got me to thinking. We'll see. I'm headed down there tomorrow anyhow to go through the store and see some drag racing. We'll see what happens.

You cut off the rest of that quote

i.e. he handloads and probably wouldn't be using a .243 if he didn't (or competing for that matter).

Remington made a 700 5R at one point, and Want2Race blows them any chance he can get.
