i found a shop by me that can get them in stock for me and they quoted me 850 out the door if i want to order one. I wanted to know if anybody on this forum has this particular rifle whether it be the regular 700P or the LTR model...what are your opinions of it? what kinda groups do u get with it?
I want it for building my long range skills. Mainly 100-500 yards. Im settled on .308 so i dont want anybody tryin to suggest .300winmag, 6.8spc or anything else.

Let me know how you like em and if youve got one let me see a pic of your setup! :)

shoots better than i can, i'll see if i can find a target with some groupings.\

168gr hornady match moly seems to shoot the best out of it.

mine also has the fluted barrel, some don't.

I too wanted to buy this rifle a while ago, funds however disagreed with me and so i didn't get it. If you're worried about money at all check out the Remington VLS, it's the same exact rifle as the 700P except it comes with a laminated stock as opposed to the HS Precision composite stock. The main difference is about 300 bucks in price. Since I'm assuming that it will be used target only, this might be a better solution.

The 700 VS is what I have. Same gun except the police model has a palm swell and the coating is a little less shiny. And for the difference in price you can add a jewell trigger:big grin:

I can't believe I sold this. I traded a $185 can for a Springfield Gen III 10-20x56, then had Leupold rings, Harris bipod. Paid $610 new for the gun, $185 for the $700 scope, I didn't have $1000 in it. It shot Radway Green about a mile wide of the target, but Black Hills 168gr moly would put them all in the same hole at 100yd. My dad had a Rem 700 Sendero in .270. First time I ever shot it was using the hood of his truck (on a bipod) and put the first cold shot through the center of a quarter. Taped the quarter to a phone book 100yd. Punched the quarter through the phone book, never found it. But the bullet hole was right in the center of the X the tape made over it.

Oh, and no need for a Jewel trigger. Sniper Country has an easy-to-follow DIY for setting your trigger. First shot I took it to the range and they put a scale on it, broke dead at 3# with no take up, no over travel, the proverbial glass rod. I'd hate to see one of those 8oz triggers, a 3# feels like you could trip it by blowing on it.

Mine is set at 2#. I adjusted my remington down, but it still wasn't what I was looking for. I may try adjusting again on my .270.

I have the LTR version. You can find my pictures in the sticky at the top.

I haven't invested in quality ammo to see what it will do, but with shitty portugese nato surplus (supposed to be the best of the nato surplus) i put 4 shots into about 1 in end to end, at 100 yds with a 4x13.8x44 simmons aetec scope.

I really want to re-scope it, but for as much as i shoot it, i don't have a need right now. It's light enough to go deer hunting with, and the stock is smaller than the regular 700P model. Stock trigger is a little heavy, and this is probably why my groups are so big. They've been known to be sub .5moa guns in the right hands, and properly broken in.

I love my Remington 700. The only thing I don't like is it's the left handed model and I am not left handed :hs: Oh well, still got a great deal on it.

thanks for the responses so far guys!

I did a little more web surfin about rifles and came across the FN SPR A1 rifles....they are a little more expensive but theyve got McMillan tactical stocks and they look pretty nice. Are the FN rifles any better than a 700P?
the price difference is about 500..

keep in mind that you'll need a nice piece of glass to go with the rifle as well, which may or may not influence your decision, plus remember that the aftermarket for the 700 is much more vast than the FN
