Bass Pro down the road has one for ~$140

They look like nice little rifles, but I haven't heard much about them. Any of y'all have any experience with them?

140's a pretty good price I'd think. 22 is fun to shoot and CHEAP! 500 for 5.97 at wally world. P22 is next on my list for that reason.

Good price, but for another 40 bucks you could have a 10/22 which has 11tybillion aftermarket mods for it. And trust me, you'll want to mod it.

597's are not nearly as reliable as the 10/22. I would go with the ruger if you are looking for a .22 rifle. I do like the bolt hold open on the 597, but there is just alot more maintenence involved, as well as not much aftermarket

I'm pretty sure I paid $98 at Academy. That's the only reason I bought the damn thing :o

Well, it's going to be the lowest price I'll find out here, Walmart stopped selling firearms, the local gun stores either don't have jack shit or have a 40% markup. Bass Pro is pretty much the cheapest place to get one.

In that case, I'd just spend a little extra and get a 10/22.

I have a 597 and I like it. The last shot bolt hold open is nice, but there isnt a lot of aftermarket for it. It felt nicer to me than the 10/22 did and I wasnt interested in aftermarket just a plinker/squirrel gun and it works great at that.
