My dad picked me up a Remington 1911 out of his best friend's collection today. It looks to be in pretty good shape, but its been sitting in a safe for YEARS. How are these in comparison to say...Colt? or SA? or any of the other manufacturers of 1911's?

    Thanks!

Tough to say; could be a classic. Check forum.m1911.org

it's more of a collector piece and not one I'd "shoot". If it's a Remington-Rand, it's a collector. it's built on the A1. It'd shoot like any other old 1911A1, which would not be on par with todays more modern 1911's. It's just an old gun is all.

Great pick up, must be very good friends to be giving away such a rare collector piece like that.

That's awesome, I wish I had some good friends like that. I would not fool around with taking it apart or shooting it. Wipe it down with a lint free cloth, and keep it in a nice cool and secure place.

It's not going to be much of a shooter anyhow, but it'd be an awesome addition to a collection for sure.

Obviously really good friends. I wouldn't be able to accept a gift like that unless the gifter knew exactly what it was.

I've seen one at the show go for $2,500.

looks like it's in "NRA Good" condition, maybe "fair". Still be able to get some good money for it, but I'd rather keep it.

Its been shot. I know enough about guns to know that...theres some slide wear on the barrel and the grips indicate some usage.

And I am definatly keeping it...I've always wanted a 1911, I guess I should have specified I wanted one I could shoot!

M1911, not even the A1 model...rearsenaled, but still.

Wouldn't shoot it, personally. Nice pistol.
