that's not that much interest, you are just paying the down payment at the end, not the beginning :o

Not sure either. I know it's not using the same powerplant as the Euro models, though. Instead of a turbo 600cc 3cyl, I think the US models get an NA 1L 4cyl.

When the fuck do you ever put a 50% downpayment on a 14k car?

Ballon payments have been around since 1960's. This isn't new.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the notion of why anyone would want one to begin with.

Wow, they only get 33 city/41 highway mpg? That's quite horrible for what you get in this vehicle.

I can get mid to high 20s with my GTO and that has an engine that is 6 times larger, has 2 2/3 more cylinders, and weighs probably 3 times as much.

The US model uses the 3-cyl turbo.

I don't know why anyone would choose one of those over a Honda Fit or something similar. There's no cargo space, small interior, terrible acceleration, and it requires premium fuel.

Cars like the Fit will cost about the same if bought new, as well. You could always pick up a used one and save even more. I saw a Scion xA for under $8k. I'd take that over a SMART any day.

me either. i could see getting one IF:

    - they got 100+mpg

    - cities had a "micro commute" window where only certain cars could be on the road
