    good luck, i checked 3 local places a while back and only saw one used 223 model

    if you're doing more than shooting off a bench, yes.

    IMHO a 26" barrel to too long for practical purposes.

    yeah, it's unneeded weight, usually throws balance off, plus it's too long in general.

    is the rage affected much by the decreased barrel length? (i plan to get a 700 in a few years and having this info would help :hs: )

    you will lose a slight amount of velocity.

    There are plenty of people shooting 1000 yards with 20" and shorter barrels.

    On a bolt action. If I were to get a 26" barrel on my T/C it would still be about 3" shorter than a rem 700 with a 26" barrel;)
