You guys ever seen brass look like this after firing?

Guy posted this asking if it was a problem with his magazine/feed ramps (he was having FTE/Sticky bolt's). I don't know if I've ever seen a mouth blow out quite like that. I'm thinking maybe a headspace issue? A seriously fucked chamber?

    What sayeth you?

Does the caliber on the barrel match the caliber on the headstamp? I think you have it spot on, that looks like a headspace or chamber that's out of spec. Neither a feed ramp or magazine will do that. A failure to feed will occur way before it's pushed out like that from a bad feed/magazine.

Lol...... That was pretty much my face/expression when I opened the thread and seen the picture.

Actually, my first response was "the fuck have you done here?!". Poor guy thought it was mag/feedramp related, and apparently thought that brass just normally looked like that upon firing.

I'm still stumped as to what in the hell could cause the mouth to expand out in a nearly perfect cone like that.

I asked that, but haven't gotten a response yet. Also asked on maker of barre/bolt/gun, and for pics of the primer area. Shooting factory Remington 55gr (so it would be 223rem cartridges I'm thinking).

That being said, I've done the 5.56/223 swaparoo multiple times, on several different rifles and have never seen anything like that.

I'd love to see a pic of the chamber area. I'm thinking something would almost have to be noticeably awry to produce results like that.

My thought: .223/5.56 round in the wrong barrel.

    Basically what's already been said.
