Hey guys I'm working on a research project and one of the points we're discussing is the 'relationship between software safety and metrics', if any, but I haven't been lucky finding info about it.

Software safety refers to how to ensure safe operation of software within a system.
And software metrics is measure of some property of a piece of software or its specifications, for example, bugs per line of code, lines of code, number of classes and interfaces, etc.

Any pointer you could give me would be highly appreciated.

thx

Let me take a crack at this from the outside looking in:

The "relationship" between the two means how does one effect the other.
And each is obviously effected by the other.
Software safety would be the needs of the customer.
The software metric would be the boss looking over your shoulder with his budget.

Software safety asks if the app is secure, certainly form hacking,
as well as being negatively effected by other programs.
The software metric would look at how costly in time/resources is the safety
to implement.

Software safety asks does it do damage to the os.
The software metric asks once again, how costly in time/resources is the "solidity"
of the app to implement.

Software safety asks does it use a lot of resources.
The software metric asks how much time and resources will it take to make
it run as efficiently as possible. And it maybe even asks, do we care if
it's not that efficient?

Software safety asks does the install/uninstall work as required.
The software metric says that it had better.

Now if I knew what was actually going on, I would use that kind of framework
for a faq type of perspective.

On the same 'area', is there a relationship between software safety and software reliability?
