And now my Dell dimension 3000 has almost no drivers. I know you can download them off the dell site. All I really need is the ethernet driver so I can at least get online and download everything else. How can I tell which one I need?

You're probably using the wrong driver. If you punch in your service code into dell's support website, it will give you the exact drivers you need for your hardware

UNLESS you've replaced your ethernet card, in which case you have to go to the website of the company that made the card to get your driver.

I know it's old-fashioned, but can you just use a modem to get online, run a Custom Windows Update scan, and only download the ethernet driver?

If all else fails, go get a new Netgear Ethernet card. They are cheap.
