I know the regular one uses a Firewire connection, has an integrated mic, and uses a CMOS sensor. The integrated one uses a USB 2.0 connection, does not have a mic (one is integrated into the laptops anyway), and uses a CCD sensor.

Is there a big quality difference?

I've owned them both. The external was a tiny bit better, but the internal one is much more convenient. :bigok: Not a huge difference worth worrying about.

The internal doesn't have optical focus, I think the external one did.

It HAS to be more then that, it really isn't that bad of a camera for how tiny it is. This thing is awesome.

Sensor wise I am not sure, but the orig isight definatly has a better lens. It has an Auto-iris auto-focus glass lens with aspherical elements. The new inbuilt isight is similar to a camera phone with a (probably plastic) infinite focus lens arangement.

couldnt the old isight just be obsolete? Seeing as everything except a mac mini has one inbuilt these days?

Good, maybe the price will be a little more reasonable for one
