Is there a way to prevent your name and address from showing up in a whois if you just register normally through godaddy.com and don't use domainsbyproxy.com?

Well you can always update the name information if you go to your domain registrar, just make sure that they allow you to make these changes, otherwise i'd probably recommend changing domain registrar. GoDaddy charges about $5-10 last time i checked to make your domains private, which is even a little too much considering I have about 5-8 domains at any given time.

I started registering domains through Dreamhost (where I now have hosting) and when you register a domain, you can hide your information and use Dreamhost's information for no extra charge. The domain's are $9.95, but the options are nice.

Always make sure you have a nice registrar when registering domains, as there's always places that do not care about the customer and want to charge them extra for any ridiculous option.

Worst case, they'll just shutdown the domain. But so far they haven't done shit.

Cheaper to just get a PO Box. It's like $20 a year for some post offices.
