I really don't have the $$ to dish out for a spankin' brand new one. the refurbs seem legit.

Are refurb's also free of scratches? Do they look like a brand new laptop? If I'm spending that much money on a laptop, I dont want any scratches, even if it is used.

Can you buy refurb's in store or only online? Can I still get the free ipod deal with a refurb?

Call Adobe and ask them about a "crossgrade" upgrade.

They will let you go from a Windows version to a Mac version for only the upgrade cost. They will send you a brand new full version of the Mac for the upgrade price. If you already have CS3 for Windows, then they will only charge you a minimal fee for shipping and the CDs, not even an upgrade price.

I did this when I made the switch. it would be nice if more companies did this. You do have to agree to destroy all your Windows versions (actually make you sign a legal document before they will ship the new one) but you wont want to use the Windows version anyway once you are on the Mac.

I got the whole CS3 Design Premium for my Mac for only the upgrade price. They dont advertise this, but they will do it if you call the store and ask. You cannot do it online or through anyone but the Adobe call-in store.

    another question:

is there a significant performance difference between running those adobe programs on a regular macbook vs. a macbook pro?

i mean, duh, know a macbook pro is the way to go, but i'm just curious.

    currently i'm running a p.o.s. 3 year-old gateway.
1.4GHz & 512mb of ram. it's just now starting to show signs of it's age while running big programs. wouldn't a simple step to a macbook show a HUGE improvement?

Like Photoshop? Once the program is loaded, how much the difference will it really make?

    good point.

    last question, i promise:

say i want to upgrade to leopard, is that a good idea? i've obviously have had a horrible past trying to upgrade windows versions that didnt come preloaded. any common problems/side effects when upgraded osx versions?

You know honestly, I dont think you will see that much improvement from macbook to macbook pro (if the specs is nearly the same, the integrated video on macbook will hurt, but not for those apps) PM lolzilla for links to benchmarks because i think i hurt his pussy for being critical of most of apple products outside this forum. (And mac users, but him acting this way pretty much proved my point).

however, how bout post some benchmark on how photoshop is a ton faster on a MBP than MB?

So asking for help on ram on a apple products means i dont know shit? Just admit, you turned this into a personal vendetta because Im critical of Apple.

benchmark to a specific macbook vs MBP in photoshop use. Of course I know the MBP is a more powerful machine, but the OP states money is an issue and he wont be doing video rendering. Instead of just stating the obvious (MBP is better than macbook) how bout helping him out and giving him benchmarks on how much photoshop runs better in MBP than a MB.

or you can actually link the specific article instead of "macbook vs macbook pro benchmarks".

    http://www.macworld.com/2007/06/firstlooks/mbpbench/index.php

link basically proved my point that its not that much difference.

And thats only loading time. I highly doubt there even a noticeable difference when the program is actually loaded, sure he might cut a few sec off rendering but if thats worth the rpice difference to him, then he should go for it.

Well, on the topic of refurbs, I bought the same exact laptop you posted (Mine is a C1D, idk if yours is C2D) refurb and i love it. With apple care and shipping it'll come to like 2002 dollars. Its great though, mine came in perfect condition, the only thing that wasn't brand new was a 1/4th of an inch nick on like the far back right corner of the outer case on the top. You can't even see it unless you're looking at the computer while it's closed.

Everything else was perfect. My parents also bought a refurb Mini, and that came in brand new condition. Great idea IMO.

How many times do myself or Lolzilla have to completely destroy everything you say before you start to act a little humble?
